On April 18, 2018, the Society submitted Comments to the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) on the Comprehensive Plan of rate National Capital: Federal Elements – Parks & Open Space Element.

At the March 20, 2018 City Council,  273 individuals and organizations were signed up to present testimony. Among them were CHRS Board Members Beth Purcell (Testifying on behalf of the organization) and Monte Edwards (Testifying on his own behalf) both in opposition to the proposed Framework Element of the Comprehensive Plan.

Several organizations and community groups have expressed concerns about the Office of Planning’s (OP) handling of their proposed changes.

The Comprehensive Plan, the city’s most important land-use law, is amended every 10 years, and 2017 is the start of the amendment cycle. 

The District’s Office of Planning (OP) is hosting a series of community meetings to discuss amendments to the District’s Comprehensive Plan.  Capitol Hill and Lower Anacostia Waterfront/Near Southwest is scheduled for Thursday, November 3,  6 – 8:30 p.m. at Jefferson Middle School Academy, 801 7th St. SW. New zoning regulations (ZC 14-11) to address “pop ups” were released June 26, 2015.
